State Pension Fund (VER) chosen as the best pension fund in Finland

The State Pension Fund has been recognised as the best pension investor in Finland. The State Pension Fund won the award for Best Pension Fund in Finland in the IPE European Pension Fund Awards, an annual competition organised by Investment and Pension Europe (IPE) magazine. This was the third time that VER won the award for Best Pension Fund in Finland.

According to the jury, VER rose to the top thanks to its excellent long-term investment strategy and short-term dynamic changes in its investment portfolio. In recent years, VER has sharpened its investment strategy and operating methods, and become the first pension investor in Finland to publish its investment beliefs (VER Investment Beliefs). The jury also noted the continuous development of VER’s fixed income investment portfolio and diversification both before and during the Eurozone crisis. The development work of other investment portfolios, especially Private Credit investments, was also recognised.

Numerous pension funds from all over Europe took part in the IPE European Pension Fund Awards, which was being held for the 13th time. The awards for both Best European Pension Fund and Best Public Pension Fund went to the Pension Protection Fund from the UK.

The ten year average nominal return on VER’s investment operations has been 5.7%, whilst realised return has been 3.9%.
